Martin is a poor actor, who went on tour with a third-rate troupe towards the end of World War II. On the very day of the Normandy landings, he had to play the role of a German officer. His uniform got him some trouble with American soldiers before he was arrested and handed over to the French. We end up recognizing his good faith, but he is released to better serve the cause of the Allies by putting himself at the service of the Resistance and gleaning information. During his mission, Martin discovers a plot to bring about the destruction of Paris. The fate of the capital is in his hands.
