Born and raised in a rural family with two elder brothers who have died in the battlefield, Linh (nicknamed Linh "Bear") becomes the only child in the family. Linh's mother always wishes to have a grandson to continue the family line.
Linh marries O Loi, but not for several days, he receives the draft notice to join the army.
Coming to Truong Son mountain range, he bears in his heart deep love for his wife and dream of having a full family with beautiful children. He tries to ask his chief for permission to come back home to visit his family.
However, the increasingly fierce war prevents him from coming back home.
