Plot: 1943, the war in North Africa rages: Allies on one side, Axis forces on the other compete for control of the Mediterranean in the battle of El Alamein. At the strongpoint codenamed "Girasole", the Italian corporal Malapaga is joined by the very welcome news of having obtained the long-awaited license that will allow him to return, even for a few days, to Italy. Immediately after the British troops unleashed a great offensive, which definitively breaks through the Italian - German front. Surprised by the wartime events, Corporal Malapaga aboard a truck desperately looks for an officer from one command to another to validate his newly acquired license. When, thanks to the help of a woman, he finally succeeds, the British take him prisoner.
