The "Bitch War" is a name given to the ruthless confrontation between prison inmates that lasted ten years - from the mid-forties to the mid-fifties of the last century.

Those convicted of criminal offenses were divided into two opposing camps. On one side of the barricades were the “thieves in law” who were accustomed to living “by rules” and under no circumstances entering into negotiations with government officials.

And on the other side there were “bitches” - prisoners who repented of committing a crime and sincerely wanted to improve. Most of the "bitches" fought at the front during the Great Patriotic War. Over time, the “bitches” were joined by thieves who, for one reason or another, did not want to live “according to thieves’ laws...
